  1. Straighten your back if you’ve begun to slouch during the recitation, place the palms of your hands over your knees, press your feet (shoeless) against each other, and close your eyes. 
  2. Imagine energy rushing into your body through the top of your head, coursing along all your natural pathways. Feel it sparking in the tiny gaps between your hands and knees, fusing together your two feet.
  3. Know that the universe is hearing you and Downloading what you’ve explicitly requested. Have absolute faith in this reality, and maintain your position for the five or so minutes that the process will take. 
  4. When you naturally sense the energy rush slowing to a stop and silence settling over your body and mind, you’ll know the Download is complete, and you’ll be able to return to your day.

YOUR RULES OF CONTAINMENT FOR NEGATIVE ENERGY

  • Don’t run from your feelings – Human beings are inherently emotional creatures who tend toward ups and downs rather than always maintaining an even keel. Please don’t run from this reality, and don’t feel that every time a fleeting negative emotion comes over you, you have to stifle it and stuff it out of sight. Create space to honor your lows as you do your highs, and strike a pragmatic balance between wallowing in them and letting them fester untended to.
  • Identify and rely on your trusted inner circle – We all have “soul people” in our lives – friends and loved ones who know, adore and understand us at the most elevated and intimate level of connection. Know who these people are for you, deep to your core, and don’t let that bond exist passively. Lean on it when negativity is eating at you and asking for more space in your heart. Let your innermost circle uplift you and protect you.
  • Utilize HEALTHY coping mechanisms – When we think about the concept of coping mechanisms, it’s easy to visualize, by default, unhealthy options like excessive drinking or spending. However, healthy coping mechanisms DO very much exist and are imperative to containing negativity. To creating counteractive positivity. From football to knitting to reading to baking, a million soul-feeding hobbies might turn out to be hugely emotionally regulative for you. 
  • Never underestimate the impact of a safe environment – After a negative occurrence, the most important thing we can do is avoid what I’d call “compounding” AKA the mental linking of other adverse situations to create a connected, more impactful string of negativity. Dodging this is much easier when our professional and personal spheres feel truly safe. When there isn’t adversity and negative emotion inherently attached to, for instance, heading into the office.
  • Avoid instinctively repeating old patterns; be purposeful – Just as humans are emotional, we are creatures of pattern and repetition. Sometimes, this serves us well, allowing us to establish routines and achieve goals. Other times, this keeps us trapped in a flow of thought or action that isn’t strictly healthy or optimal. (For instance, living out a past traumatic connection again, beat for beat, with a new person.) Bring real, considered intention to each move you make TODAY.
  • Build up your boundaries and define your limits – The best way to contain negativity is never to let it touch you at all. The next best way is to limit your exposure. If you know that certain experiences/people/occasions trigger dark, unhelpful thoughts for you, you need to shape your life accordingly. You need to build iron-clad boundaries and limits, and you need to then enforce them for yourself (because I promise – nobody else can sustainably do that for you).
