This Saturday! Do you know where we are in the 12 zodiac cycle? Do you realize what that means?
The Year of the Dragon is days away
If you don’t know what that means, allow me to explain. There are 12 zodiac animals in Chinese culture, and each lunar year is defined by one. In order, they are as follows:
- Rat (last year 2020, next year 2032)
- Ox (previous year 2021, next year 2033)
- Tiger (previous year 2022, next year 2034)
- Rabbit (previous year 2023, next year 2035)
- Dragon (previous year 2012, CURRENT year 2024)
- Snake (previous year 2013, next year 2025)
- Horse (previous year 2014, next year 2026)
- Goat (previous year 2015, next year 2027)
- Monkey (previous year 2016, next year 2028)
- Rooster (previous year 2017, next year 2029)
- Dog (previous year 2018, next year 2030)
- Pig (previous year 2019, next year 2031)
Every 12 years, a zodiac animal embodies the current calendar and affects the spiritual and energetic currents of the next 12 lunar months.
Those months are shaped by the animal’s energy profile, dominant elemental force, and “yin” or “yang” (in very simple terms, feminine or masculine) status.
2023, for example, was the Year of the Rabbit, defined by energies of peace and prosperity and aligned with wood and yin. It was a year that encouraged reflection, self-acceptance and centering.
2024, quite oppositely, is the Year of the Dragon, defined by energies of confidence, power and success. The Year of the Dragon is aligned with earth and yang. It’s a time in which to GET! STUFF! DONE!
Regardless of your background, religion, or existing knowledge of the Chinese zodiac system, you can benefit from the energies of the Dragon in 2024.
To “Be More Dragon” is to adopt a bolder approach to everything you do.
It’s to show up for yourself with confidence and invite new opportunities at every turn.
It’s to be the best and bravest version of yourself.

UNDERSTANDING THE LUNAR NEW YEAR
As I’ve just explained, , the lunisolar calendar isn’t a new invention.
Scholars tell us that it dates back to the 1600 to 1045 BCE Shang (otherwise known as Yin) dynasty. Standardization followed far later in the 221 to 206 BCE Qin dynasty, and a few changes have been made since.
Most modern observers of the calendar follow a 12 or 13-month format (as necessary), with each month aligning to a complete lunar cycle.
Traditional Chinese holidays and celebrations are plotted against this calendar, with the most well-known being the Chinese New Year/Lunar New Year.
In 2023, the Lunar New Year began on January 22nd. In 2024, due to the way that moon cycle tracking works, the Lunar New Year will start a little later, on February 10th.
