Two months before that, I got a review from someone I knew had never been my client, but the harsh words directed at the wrong person still sat heavily on my chest.

And last Christmas? My cousin got into a huge unnecessary drama because she’d lied about how much she loved an in-law’s outfit and then been gifted the same one! 

You’re picking up what I’m putting down, I’m sure. Even when they’re well-intentioned (though they’re usually not), liars mess with the natural order of things, cause confusion and create conflict where it need not have existed.

This has been incredibly true in your life – perhaps more so than you realize.

Some wondrous opportunities have entered your orbit and astral sky in the past five or six months, only to be batted away or bent out of shape by some form of dishonesty.

In big and small ways, liars continually t upturn your chances of success and life elevation. And it’s unfair.

There was once a brave – but at times stunningly foolish – pirate captain leading his crew across the seas. He was ordinary and extraordinary all at once, as many people are, and he had adventures both harrowing and hilarious… 

But his life kicked into an unbelievably fantastic gear when this artifact was born.

One night, under the light of the waxing moon, a generous sea witch with care in her heart for the captain transformed his spyglass – at that time, just a rudimentary form of hand-held refracting telescope – into something new. 

Though it looked the same, it was not the same. It had become the Spyglass of Vehement Veracity, an instrument of truth.

The sea witch chose to funnel power into the Spyglass for two reasons…

For one, as mentioned, she cared about the captain. He had saved her three weeks prior from another ship of less friendly, less kindly pirates and brought her to safety. 

For two, she saw a tendency toward naivety and gullibility in him, and she knew this would one day get him into trouble – whether he deserved it or not.

By making the Spyglass what it is now, she gave him a way to discern whether or not a person or situation was to be trusted. No matter what, the Spyglass would tell him the truth. (And oh, did he use it wisely for the remainder of his life of piracy!)

Many years on and many passes down the line later, I am the rightful keeper of this artifact. I pass its powers on to whoever most needs them at a given time, and I only pass them on again when things are in the best possible place.

… When the Spyglass indicates to me through vivid, seafaring dreams that it’s ready to move on to a new recipient.
